Abstract:

Tactual Profile (TP) is an instrument that provides a procedure to assess tactual functioning in children, who are blind or who have a severe visual impairment, from birth up to 16 years of age. The instrument has been outlined as a ‘structured observation’. The assessment should take place in an everyday setting at home or at school. TP aims to measure the tactile prerequisites for every-day activities and school related subjects. The Profile provides items (430 in total), graded according to age-level and domain of tactual functioning. The domains (tactual sensory-, tactual motor- and tactual perceptual- functioning and practical skills) are divided in categories, e.g. touch sensitivity, proprioception, tactual exploration, tactile-spatial perception.

TP comes with a set of materials, to be used in the administration of the items. In addition to these standardised materials, other common household or school related materials have to be used in an administration.

During the presentation a DVD will be shown which pictures children during an assessment.
