Co Presenter: Claire Jones, RNIB Centre for Accessible Information, UK

Abstract:

With over 400 million books sold internationally, produced in 67 languages, and available in all accessible formats the Harry Potter series of books have been a phenomenal success, with children and adults around the world really engaging with the stories.

RNIB has worked with J.K. Rowling via her literary agent, as well as with Warner Brothers to secure license to develop tactile and large print images of characters and scenes from the books, and have created two books of images with descriptions.

This presentation will discuss the development of these books, from concept to publication, and talk through the decisions made in the creation of this challenging project.

Finally we will discuss how these images can help individuals in making a transition from a complete lack of interest in tactile images, to being passionate about wanting to read tactile images, with a few minutes, some support and just a little magic.
