Foreign language lessons provide one of the best opportunities to discover and fill gaps in the knowledge of the world of young congenitally blind learners. Before introducing new vocabulary, the teacher must make sure that the young learner understands the concept ‘behind’ the word or words. Among the various educational tools which can be used in foreign language lessons those involving tactile audio-graphics deserve particular attention. The paper presents useful practical hints on design and production of raised drawings accompanied by spoken description and sound effects, scented tactile graphics or real objects placed on touch sensitive screens, as well as ready-to-use multi-sensory materials for teaching English as a foreign language.
