Abstract:
Tactile book competitions encourage creative people of all ages and backgrounds to design and make books especially for children with a visual impairment. They also increase awareness of the need for such books. Successful competitions can be organised by craft groups, arts centres, charities, schools or colleges. They can be local, national or international.
The results of the Tactile Book Advancement Group’s international tactile book competition will be announced during this presentation and we will also take a look at how the judges selected the winning books.
Objectives of presentation:
- To provide background information on the competition
- To explain what the judges were looking for
- To consider why some books were not shortlisted
- To show what the judges liked about the shortlisted books
- To announce the winning books
Outcomes for audience:
- Understanding of what makes an effective and appealing tactile book
- Knowledge of what is involved in holding a tactile book competition – large or small.
- Enthusiasm for promoting the design and production of tactile books
