The material on exhibit includes a collection of textured PVC continental political maps, silk-screened in seven colours and labelled in braille, high relief and large print.
Each map includes an explanatory country/code legend, both in braille and large print (16-pt Arial). The dies were cut from Corian solid surface with a CNC milling machine. The 3-D file sent to the milling machine runs on Tiger software. The plates are silk-screened in four-colour print. The print file was prepared with Corel Draw. Once the plate was screened, the Braille and relief components were embossed and thermoformed into the die.
The most significant elements represented on the map are country boundaries (dotted lines in high relief), national capitals (semi-circular high relief dots) and cities with a population of over one million (high relief squares). Different textures are used to distinguish bodies of water from the adjacent continents. Maps measure 600 x 450 mm.
