This presentation will describe the techniques used to produce the book Touch The Sun. Touch The Sun contains 16 thermoformed tactile images that combine both colour printing and tactile relief to produce a book that is usable by both sighted and blind readers. Touch The Sun is unique in that it is the first large production run (2,500 copies) of a book that utilizes techniques first developed at Baruch College (New York, NY) and later refined by Touch Graphics (New York, NY). The presentation will feature a display of tooling used in the various production processes of this book. Computer-based techniques will be described which will allow authors, transcribers and producers to produce tactile materials of exceptional quality.
