The Canadian Braille Authority ( CBA ) began the process of determining Tactile Graphics Guidelines for textbook production in 1991. Phase I of the GRASP project (Graphics Research And Standards Project) brought major Canadian tactile graphics producers together to identify best practices currently in use and to set up interim guidelines and recommendations for future work. This presentation will look in-depth at Phase III of the project where it became a joint CBA / BANA (Braille Authority of North America) effort to look at user comprehension and preferences. It will include clips of some of the testing and a presentation of the Tactile Graphics used in the six Test Modules that were developed for the project. The key findings of the tests for Phase III that was conducted in nine selected sites throughout Canada and the United States will be highlighted. This project has now entered Phase IV where the work from the first three phases is being compiled into a comprehensive set of Tactile Graphics Guidelines for educational material.
