Abstract:
This workshop is aimed at those totally new to tactile graphics.
If you are new to the area of tactile graphics and need to know how images and graphical information can be made accessible to blind people – this workshop is for you!
With lots of hands-on examples from real-life projects you will see - and feel - the variety of ways in which tactile images can be used to benefit blind people in education, for work, leisure or daily life activities.
You will get an overview of the different methods for the production of tactile graphics, and how you can decide which images are suitable for producing as a tactile image.
You will find out what makes a good tactile graphic, and learn the key elements of tactile graphic interpretation and design.
The workshop will also cover the issues of effective implementation of tactile graphics - how you can support users, provide image descriptions, staff training, and promote your available materials.
Participants will be expected to share their experiences, interests and plans relating to tactile graphics throughout the session.
Objectives of Workshop:
- to help those new to the area learn about tactile graphics and how they can be used in real-life settings
- to showcase a variety of samples and techniques
- to demonstrate basic good practice principles for design, production and implementation of tactile graphics
