Established in 2000, Art At Your Fingertips is a Library-based scheme revealing the work of famous artists in tactile form. Using fabrics, wools, threads and related materials to give clear definition, these interpretations show the different styles used by the artists. The pictures which are correct in colour to the original are accompanied by an audio tape and a Braille transcription, allowing them to be appreciated both by people with a visual impairment and their sighted companions. The Library is available, through membership subscription, to anyone who might benefit from tactile copies of historic art. These pictures are popular with schools helping pupils with both Art and History classes. They have also been used for exhibitions, talks and seminars.
