In 2000 the Government of Canada made a commitment to increase support for
the development of new technologies to assist persons with disabilities. The
current focus of program delivery is the Government on Line (GOL) program, which
will provide access to information and services for all Canadians by the year
2005. The Mapping for the Visually Impaired Project is carried out in support
of the
GOL program.
The presentation will describe the main component of the web site, including
tactile maps for education, for mobility training, for transport and for
tourism. The preliminary results of the research components of the
project aiming at development of the Internet based audio-tactile maps based
on Flash and SVG (scalable vector graphics) technologies will also be
demonstrated.
