This paper describes an inexpensive method for making topographic maps to support
courses for visually impaired students. The maps have been mainly for Geology
& Ecology Courses but maps for walking & other recreational purposes
have been produced. The method is not well suited to reproduction of copies
but work is continuing to investigate replication.
The paper deals with choice of materials, scale (vertical exaggeration) &
methods of labelling to meet needs of both blind & partially sighted students.
Zoom to large scale sections has been used for areas of special interest &
some experimental globes have been produced.
