Developing Good Practice Guidelines
Sarah Morley, Dave Gunn and Phil Beresford
National Centre for Tactile Diagrams, UK
There are very few generic
good practice guidelines for the design and production of tactile graphics, which
makes it difficult to establish any kind of consistency in tactile graphic design
and production. From the user-perspective, it would be very helpful if tactile
graphics had the same kind of 'look and feel' consistency that people have come
to expect from other accessible materials that are produced to comply with good
practice guidelines or standards. Although different kinds of graphics will have
different design considerations, some generic issues will exist.
This exploratory session attempts to establish some basic areas of overlap
between the design and production of different types of tactile graphics in
an attempt to improve the quality and consistency of tactile graphics in general.
