We report on methods for the
dynamic and interactive representation of tactile diagrams. The ongoing project
attempts to achieve the following goals:
- Provide consistent digital representations of information for a wide variety
of users, including users without and with physical impairments.
- Explore representation modes of scientific diagrams that are understood
by both sighted and visually impaired individuals.
- Combine different communication modes like sound and touch.
- Achieve an integrated information representation for both sighted and visually
impaired individuals.
The experiments are conducted using the METEC DMD display with 60-times-120
Braille dots, with finger position sensors and voice input and voice output.
We discuss access, display and exploration strategies and the possibilities
for their implementation. The presentation will include a prototype demonstration.
