Abstract for the International Conference on Tactile Diagrams Maps and Pictures 2002

Making Tactile Graphics with the Tiger Tactile Graphics and Braille Embosser

Carolyn and John Gardner

ViewPlus Technologies Inc, United States

The Tiger now embosses using Variable-Height Punching, giving the user vast flexibility combining multi-color graphics with braille for use in tactile documents. Tiger interprets the color spectrum as varying punch depths. The darker a color, the deeper Tiger punches.

We will demonstrate that materials for the Tiger Embosser are created just as they would be for a Windows® ink printer. Scan, draw or import graphics with any Windows application and emboss in extraordinary detail on the Tiger. Documents that contain text can be translated directly from Windows®. The Tiger embosses braille and graphics together beautifully. We give step-by-step details on using clip art, creating line graphics, printing charts generated by Excel, printing from the Accessible Graphing Calculator application, etc.
